[WARNING: Some people are reporting that following the steps for them does not fix the problem. I am working on trying to find out what the issue is. ] Trying to get a version of ModelSim running on a very modern version of Linux often presents challenges. Luckily I had lots of helpful information on the internet (major sources linked below) to get it going. This article mostly adapts the work done by the Arch Linux crew. Problem number one: The free version of ModelSim Altera Edition is 32 bit only while the normal Linux PC will be 64 bit. On Linux this requires us to install the 32 bit versions of the libraries that it depends on.

Under Enable check the "Enable sending TalkBack data to Altera" it only sends metadata not your projects. Edit: that menu is in Quartus II btw. « Last Edit: January 05, 2015, 12:44:45 am by miguelvp » It's on: Tools->Options under General->Internet Connectivity and click on the TalkBack Options button. Edit: that menu is in Quartus II btw. Many thanks, I am indebted to you. I don't think I would ever have found that. I did do a lot of web searching for the answer before asking here. Not a problem, Quartus II 14. 1 Web Edition is free so they do require you enable the talkback for some of the functionality including also SignalTap. In that dialog box you can find details on what where the data that is sent is stored in case you want to know more about what it's being sent. I did look at it a while back and it didn't look too intrusive. Not a problem, Quartus II 14. I did look at it a while back and it didn't look too intrusive. Thanks. I don't have a problem with sending back data to them, I doubt if they will be that interested in what I'm up to!

since I cannot find the link to contact support staff, only documentations... I believe it is fixed in the latest software, have you tried downloading that? Yes, I did file a technical support question. Have you created an account on the Altera website? I see they have a beta of a new version of their website so it may have all changed since I logged in last. That was it, all working now. Have you created an account on the Altera website? I downloaded the latest version along with the patch ( QuartusSetup-14. 1. 190) patched it, still getting the exact same error Earlier in this thread someone suggested that you need to turn on talkback, did you do that? What is ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition? The ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition is a program for use in the simulation of small field-programmable gate arrays. It is the free version of the ModelSim software from Altera and thus has restrictions on its use: it can only be used with a maximum of 10, 000 executable line limitations and has 1. 5x the simulation performance (or speed) of comparable field-programmable gate array simulators on the market. The for-purchase edition still outdoes it by performing at twice the speed of the average field-programmable gate array simulator, but obviously does so in exchange for a cost. However, the licensed (paid) version also has no limits on the number of executable lines. Other than this, though, the two versions of the software are more or less the same: the paid version will naturally run faster, however. The Starter Edition of ModelSim also has support for the Quartus II Web Edition and Subscription Edition software. It is compatible with all Altera gadgets and also boasts support on Windows and Linux operating systems.
